THE MAIDEN AND HER KNIGHT

They who reject their vocation are like...
This maiden's reply to her kind loving knight...

There once was a maiden fair,
With long beautiful golden hair.
She had a kind loving knight,
Yet his love she put to flight.

He knew her as a child.
His soul was ever mild.
He was her dearest friend.
Of his love there was no end.

To her his heart was always faithful.
For her his soul was always prayerful.
He loved her as he loved no other.
He loved her more than as a brother.

Yet she her heart to him kept cold.
She saw not his love 'til it was old.
Poor fated maiden she lost her chance
For purest love and true romance.

No other maiden was given such love,
And cast it away though from above.
No other man loved as this knight,
A maiden fair and was put to flight.

This maiden fair, she had her chance,
Yet chose to  be free in the world to dance.
She spurned her lover ever true.
Now she no other man will woo.

All the more, since her love she cast away,
And her heart that knight could never sway.
She shall walk the earth forever in pain,
Until one day it becomes her bane.
